Dialogue:
Concept:
Development
With the DIALOGUE:CONCEPT:DEVELOPMENT program, we specifically want to support initiatives where people and institutions within the arts take on new roles. This could be in cross-sectoral collaborations with municipalities, the state or other organizations, where you develop new practices for how art unfolds in society and create new value for people who experience it.
In DIALOGUE:CONCEPT:DEVELOPMENT, you can meet with us in the art team and get clarification, sparring and feedback on whether your development idea could be relevant for us to collaborate on.
We focus on initiatives that, in collaboration beyond the visual and performing arts field, can create best cases for how art can act in a new context to promote encounters with art and thereby strengthen people's engagement in our society and democracy.
Please note that you cannot apply for funding to produce artworks, exhibitions and performances. Neither do we directly engage in development programs with individual artists. We support this type of development through our collaboration with the institutions Art Hub Copenhagen, Udviklingsplatformen for Scenekunst (Development Platform for the Performing Arts) and through our initiative for performing arts and performance at Thoravej 29.
1. DIALOGUE
You can initiate a dialog if you are several different partners working together on a development initiative. At least one of the partners must be a professional actor or institution in the performing and/or visual arts field, with a CVR number and based in Denmark. The other partners can be a commune, state or an organization from another sector.
We evaluate based on the following criteria:
- You have an idea for developing a new practice with the potential to create new opportunities for people's encounters with the performing and visual arts.
- You see strategic opportunities for how the idea could create a new practice and change in your and/or your partners' institution and preferably further within the field.
- You can commit to share the learning and knowledge you gain through the development initiative.
- You have not previously approached us with the same idea.
If this resonates with you, you can book a meeting for a dialog here.
At the meeting, which lasts 20 minutes, you can - preferably with your partner(s) - briefly present your idea and clarify whether the idea fits our purpose, so it will be relevant for us to receive a concept description from you. At the meeting, we are also interested in hearing more about:
- If you are familiar with other similar practices and how your idea relates to them. Do you see potential for further collaboration across the field?
- Who are your confirmed partners in the initiative and what can they contribute?
- How can your development initiative be anchored and progress after the end of a development initiative supported by us?
- How will you share your learning and knowledge?
2. CONCEPT
If we see a potential to support your idea at the dialog meeting, we will ask you to submit a concept with more information within two months.
In the concept, you provide a short presentation of the development initiative on a maximum of two pages and a budget. It will be uploaded via our digital platform, with the option to link to visuals, films and audio. The concept should also include a short profile text about your institution or practice.
We will review the material within two months and either reject or agree to support your development initiative. We receive many qualified concepts and evaluate them based on the parameters described above.
3. DEVELOPMENT
If we support your concept and budget, our contribution consists of financial support. The process can also include sparring from us.
We provide support for up to DKK 500,000 and offer around 20 development initiatives a year.
At the Bikuben Foundation, we are interested in how the initiatives we support can learn from each other - and what we can learn as a foundation. Therefore, we will sometimes ask grant recipients to participate in learning conversations with others who have similar initiatives to yours.
Who can schedule a dialogue meeting?
How do I schedule a meeting?
You can book a dialog meeting here if you meet the criteria.
If there are no more available meeting slots, we encourage you to return to the meeting booking on the last business day of the month, where meeting slots for the upcoming month will be created.
How do I qualify for a development program?
At the initial dialog meeting, we clarify whether it is relevant to receive a concept based on your development idea. If we wish to continue the dialog, you submit a concept with more information for the Bikuben Foundation's advisors to review. We offer approximately 20 development programs annually.
What can we support in your development initiative?
We can provide financial support for your initiative, including internal resources and external consultants. This could be used for concept development, communication strategy, consulting, networking and partnerships.
The Bikuben Foundation's art team can spar with you about the structure of your development initiative, public affairs, communication and knowledge sharing.
How long does a development process last?
A development program typically lasts about 3-12 months, and you frame your development initiative yourself.
Where do I go if I am a visual or performing artist and want to develop my practice?
We support artistic development through financial support and collaboration with Art Hub Copenhagen, HAUT, Udviklingsplatformen for Scenekunst (Development Platform for the Performing Arts) and the new spaces for performing arts and performance at Thoravej 29 - read more on the websites of the respective organizations.
The Bikuben Foundation does not enter direct collaboration with individual artists in the performing and visual arts field - for example, on artistic development.
Can I collaborate with the Bikuben Foundation in other ways?
Yes. We work to stimulate political conversations about the importance of art and support knowledge sharing among artists and art institutions, theatres, organizations, curators and companies.
We do this through campaigns, communication, events, reports, networks, method development and much more.
You are always welcome to contact us in this regard. Find a relevant employee here.
Can I get financial support for the production of artworks, exhibitions and performances?
No, not directly through the Bikuben Foundation. We do not support the production of artworks, performances and exhibitions, as our strategic focus is to collaborate with art institutions, theatres and organizations in the field of performing and visual arts to create change in the field and society. The exceptions are The Vision Exhibition Award and in connection with long-term partnerships.
