What we work for
Through our missions, we work to create better conditions for young people in vulnerable positions, to give art a central place in society, and to ensure more biodiversity in our nature.
At the Bikuben Foundation, we work to create positive change in society. We never work alone but together with others on missions that provide a clear and common direction for cooperation.
The problems we are working on demand that we launch a number of initiatives that support each other and our common mission. We learn from our initiatives even as we work on them and adjust them along the way.
In all our missions, we train our ability to imagine positive change. In this way, we bring the future into the way we develop the present.
Our missions
Art, nature, and young people in vulnerable positions are fixed themes in the missions we work on.
Transformation into wild nature
In Denmark, only 1.6% of our natural areas are strictly protected. At the same time, over 2,500 species are at risk of disappearing. They are losing their habitats because, for generations, we have shaped the landscape for farming and industrial production. We want to reverse this trend.
Art as a force for societal change
Art can help address societal challenges – in collaboration with a wide range of other disciplines and sectors in the social sphere, the natural environment and, more generally, in other areas that are not the exclusive preserve of the arts.
Job and education for all young people
43,000 young people today are without an education or a job. We want to break this trend for young people who can find neither a school nor a workplace. We do this by creating a path for all young people.
A positive transition from out-of-home care to adulthood
We are working to ensure good transitions to adulthood for young people who are or have been in out-of-home care. An adulthood with a job, education, a place to live, and communities. We do this together with municipalities, NGOs and interest organisations – and the young people themselves.
Better conditions for independent art
A healthy democracy is characterised by a free art scene. Art that can make us pause, stir our minds, set our hearts alight and give us new perspectives on the world and the future. We support this by helping to create the right conditions, spaces and frameworks for art to evolve freely.
Stop homelessness among young people
No young people in Denmark should be homeless. Therefore, we insist on stopping homelessness among young people. This requires more than a roof over one’s head.
Missions are team efforts
Mission-driven work provides an opportunity to gather many people together to create positive change in our society and helps provide us a clear guiding star for our common purpose.
